Migrants already in the UK working under the Points Based System (PBS) as for instance Tier 1 Post Study Worker or Tier 2 ICT Long Term Staff, wishing to extend their leave or foreign nationals hoping to come to the UK to work, will need to find a UK employer registered with the Home Office willing to sponsor them.

At present there are 27,068 registered sponsors / employers able to employ non-EEA nationals who need a work authorisation/work permit to work in the United Kingdom legally.

Offers of employment from employers not listed on the official register offering sponsorship are unlikely to be genuine. Offers of sponsorship for employment in unskilled roles are also likely to be fraudulent.

Offers of employment requiring advance payment of visa fees are often scams. Applicants are only expected to pay the visa fees online to the after having completed their online applications. In some country the fees are only payable at the visa information center during the biometrics enrolment process. If unsure, contact the Home Office fraud unit.

The UK Government announces further improvements to the UK visa system to attract: the brightest and best to work, do business and invest’ in the country.

These improvements include the launch of the GREAT Club, an invitation only service providing top business executives with bespoke support from UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI).

It is anticipated that the GREAT Club will go live in the New Year as a 12 month pilot. It will be aimed at around 100 global business leaders, who use the visa service frequently and have established links to the UK. As Club members, these applicants will be provided with an account manager who will ensure that the visa process is seamless. The account manager will also be able to arrange visa services tailored to each applicant’s needs at no extra cost.

Additional improvements will also include:

  • Expanding the priority visa service from 67 countries to over 90 countries by spring 2014
  • Expanding the same-day visa service, currently available in India and soon to be available in China, to several further key locations by the end of 2014
  • Introducing a VIP mobile visa service to India and piloting the passport pass back service in southern India with a view to expanding countrywide if successful.

The process to secure appointments for premium fast track service for visa applications both in the UK and abroad will remain unchanged.

Visas (business or tourism) appointments for other European countries such as France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Germany, Switzerland and Austria can be secured through each country’s chosen provider (mainly VFS aka visa facilitation service) – most providers offer fast track urgent visa processing services.
